First Counseling Session: What to Expect
Whether new to therapy or familiar, many people experience nervousness or increased anxiety prior to a first session with a new therapist. As with any new situation or relationship, there is usually a large amount of "unknown" involved so some apprehension is to be expected.
Let me reassure you that my goal in first therapy sessions is to help my clients get comfortable and let them set the pace. This way, we can get to know each other and you can begin to decide if I am the right match for your needs. There is some basic information about my policies, professional guidelines and your privacy rights we will need to discuss. However, most of the time we can devote to talking about who you are and what is important to you.
Generally, we take some time to talk about what motivated a person to seek counseling and what goals of therapy might be. However, some people don't have clear answers to these questions, initially. If this is you, that's perfectly alright. We can explore these topics together over the first few sessions and I can support you in finding answers.
If you have any questions or concerns that come up prior to your first session, please feel free to contact me

Couples and Relationship Counseling:
My role as a therapist working with those in relationship is to support the development of long-term solutions for issues that arise. Most couples who come to see me benefit from improving communication and learning a better way to work through conflict. I use a Jungian personality assessment to foster the understanding of each person's unique needs and traits. By laying a foundation of connection, a more satisfying experience of being in relationship can be gained
Note: Because of the volatile nature of intimate partner violence, if this is occurring, relationship, Couples and Marriage counseling are not indicated.
